Picture Quality

Like other models of Samsung’s 2017 4K TV lineup, Samsung Q9F is also equipped with great performance UHD Up-Scaling Engine. This allows you to enjoy lower resolutions content with the quality as details as 4K resolution. No matter the resolution of your video source, even DVDs movies that only have 480p resolution still looks well in 4K resolution. Although some halo artifacts might still be visible along edges, but essentially, the final images in 4K quality produced doesn’t look too soft. Meanwhile, when the source is 720p videos like movies from TV cable or 1080p contents like movies from Blu Ray Player, the final images in 4K resolution produced looks far sharper and clearer with small details are preserved well.

Samsung Q9F

Meanwhile, contrast ratio of by Samsung Q9F might not the highest for LED TV and not as high as the competitors like Sony X930E, even when its local dimming is activated. You need to know, the local dimming of Q9F doesn’t work as well as the competitors. Nevertheless, it is strong enough to produce deep black levels and paired to its good black uniformity, it is able to show dark scenes looks excellently, even when set in a dark environment where the high of native contrast ratio is sensitive. Additionally, the deepest black level of Q9F is also quite dark to show the details of HDR images in shadow or dark scenes clearly like what intended.

Motion Handling and 24p Playback

Samsung Q9FWith Motion Rate 240 based on native 120 Hz refresh rate panel behind it, Samsung Q9F is a great TV when used for watching fast paced contents like sport programs or fast movies. Although not as low as OLED TV, for LED TV, its pixel response time is extremely low, result in smooth and clear picture quality with almost no motion blur noticeable. Following fast objects, there is only a short trail where most of people might not notice about that. Meanwhile, when used for playing 24p videos, it also has great performance. No matter the type of the video search, whether it is native 24p videos like movies from Blu Ray player, 24p via 60i signal like movies from satellite TV, or even 24p videos via 60p signals like movies from streaming devices, all of them displayed clearly and smoothly with judder-free.

Inputs/outputs

Samsung Q9FLike most of high end TVs which available in the market, Samsung Q9F is equipped with 4 HDMI ports and 3 USB ports as its major connectivity. Its HDMI ports already support the most of formats which required for HDMI connection like HDCP 2.2, CEC, Audio Return Channel, and many more. In addition to USB and HDMI ports, there are also 1 RF In (Antenna In), Ethernet, and Digital Audio Out (Optical). There are no Composite In (AV In) and Component In. So if you want to connect your other devices where these outputs are as their major connectivity, you need an adapter. Unlike most of TVs which available in the market where all of inputs/outputs are located on the rear or side of their panel, most of these ports are located on separated box called “One Connect Box”.

Smart TV

As its smart TV platform, Samsung Q9F features Tizen 2017 with Smart Hub. Compared to last year version, it comes with nicer animation and theme that makes its appearance looks more attractive. Nevertheless, although it comes with nicer user interface and layout, it is still simple and easy to navigate. Once you go on the “Home Screen”, there is a ribbon at the bottom of the screen contains quick access to most of popular apps.  This allows you to launch one of them without leaving the home screen. Additionally, apps which are provided are very complete and diverse. In addition to preinstalled apps where there are VoD Service like YouTube, Amazon Videos, Hulu, and many more, Web Browsing, Cloud Games apps, and many more, you can also directly download from your TV tons of apps provided on Samsung’s Apps Store.
